The bronchial epithelial cell line 16HBE14o- was investigated as a possible in vitro model for transepithelial absorption in the upper lungs with special attention on active transport systems, relevant to drug transport, like P-glycoprotein (P-gp), lung resistance protein (LRP-56) and caveolin-1.
