Magnetic field-induced twins in martensite and their effect on the succedent cementite precipitation in Fe-0.32C (mass%) steels have been studied. Specimens were quenched under or without magnetic field. In martensite formed under magnetic field, many internal twins are observed, while few twins are found in martensite formed without magnetic field. When the specimens were subsequently tempered without magnetic field, the magnetic field-induced twins will influence the morphology of cementite precipitation. Due to the magnetic field-induced twins and the change in morphology of cementites, the strength of the specimen quenched under magnetic filed is considerably increased, and the toughness is slightly decreased at the same time.
