We describe here the validation of an automated algorithm for the retrieval of sub-pixel snow convered area and grain size from Airborne Visible Infrared Imagign Spectrometer (AVIRIS) data. The algorithm consists of a multiple endmember spectral mixture analysis with a spectral library of snow spectral endmembers of varying grain size derived from a radiative transfer model and vegetation, rock, and other endmembers collected in the field and laboratory.
