摘要

CORBA as opposed to RMI is well past its embryonic stages of existence and is ideal in robust, high-performance, massively distributed systems. However, scalability remains a major concern to system developers with respect to CORBA's deployment. The arrival of RMI-IIOP may be viewed as an attempt to eliminate CORBA's scalability limitations. This paper investigates round trip delays (RTD) as well as scalability levels of CORBA based on the Java IDL implementation. Further, two additional systems with similar functionality, but based on RMI and RMI-IIOP are developed. Performance assessment of the three distributed object architectures is made. Lastly, the paper suggests, based on experimental evidence, how scalability hiccups in CORBA may be overcome.
