COMPARATIVE STUDY OF OBJECT-ORIENTED DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS: POET 5.0 AND JASMINE 1.21

摘要

This work presents a comparative study between two Object-Oriented Database Management Systems (OODBMS): Poet 5.0 and Jasmine 1.21. The goal of this work is: "To develop an application using Visual C++ 5.0 connected with an OODB in POET 5.0 and Jasmine 1.21 to study different aspects of OODBMS referenced. These aspects include: Integrity, Security, Concurrence Control, Facility of applications development, Index definition and Manipulation, Performance" The OODB developed was constituted by 17 persistent classes, 3 generalization hierarchies and 15 semantic relationships. Was used 5 queries to measure the application performance using distinct quantities of objects in the OODB (50, 100 and 300 objects). The network used to execute the queries was composed by two 100 Mhz Pentium clients and one 200 Mhz Pentium server.
