As more and more people are moving towards obtaining higher education a subset of them find it difficult or impossible to achieve their goals through traditional classroom delivery. This group of people has an opportunity to gain higher education through the use of distance education technologies. One of the formidable challenges is creating an electronic educational environment that is conducive to asynchronous learning, where a learner has little or no contact with the instructional team. The Logic Programming in Education for Asynchronous Learning Environment (LPed ALE) is a distance education environment that integrates web and inferential technologies to provide support tools for asynchronous learners. The new tools provided in this environment encourage students to learn and solve problems on their own.
