For practical simulations in a nonlinear numerical wave tank a beach is necessary in order to be able to calculate for sufficient long time without having the solution disturbed by reflections from the opposing wall. because of the nonlinearity and the time domain character of the simulations, the numerical beach must be able to absorb a broad range of frequencies. In this paper we investigate a numerical beach concept consisting of a stretched damping zone and a Sommerfeld condition and examine its properties both analytically and by numerical simulations in a twodimensional nonlinear wave tank.
