The paper discussed experimentally that a smaller (550 W) pulsed Nd:YAG laser can be used to make full penetration butt welds in 1mm thick sheet Al - 5154 by coating the sheet aluminum surface and preheating the sheet aluminum due to increasing the absorption of the Al - sheets being welded.
