Mechanical properties of beam welded high- and ultra-high-strength steels

At the beginning of the 1980s, demand arose for a large-size galvanised floor pan for the production of fully galvanised auto bodies. There was to galvanising line anywhere in the world which could provide the required dimensions. This necessity led to the idea of joining two smaller zinc-coated sheets together by laser welding. The late 1980s then saw the first applications involving sheets of dissimilar thickness and coating.
