The virulence variation and population diversity in wheat stripe rust and its control strategy

Wheat stripe rust is one of the most important diseases of wheat in China. In the past 50 years it periodically induced many times of epidemics and great loss of grains. Growing resistant varieties is the fundamental aspect of integrated management of wheat stripe rust. The breakdown of resistance in wheat cultivars to stripe rust is an important problem ocnfronting the application of resistant varieties. This paper summarized the progress of research on the cause of breakdown of resistance in wheat varieties, the main way of arising new virulent races and its evolution and population diversity. It has found that the South Gansu and Northwest Sichuan province are the variable area and suggested the relevent control strategy.
