NEDOL Coal Liquefaction Technology for Providing Clean Fuels in China

The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) has been developing coal liquefaction technology as part of the "New Sunshine Programs" planned by the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, a division of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in Japan. NEDO began basic research for coal liquefaction in early 1980 and develped the NEDOL coal liquefaction process. Finally, 150t/d pilot plant was constructed in 1997 and successfully operated until 1998. The results, including engineering data for scaling up the plant to commercial size, were compiled as a technology package.
