A new Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be-Mg-Y bulk amorphous alloy was prepared by water quenching in a silica tube with a diameter of up to 7 mm. The amorphicity of the quenched bulky phase was examined using x-ray diffraction analysis and optical microscopy. The thermal stability was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at a heating rate of 10K/min. The charateristic data of the bulk amorphous alloy was given, including glass transition temperature (Tg), crystallization temeprature (Tx) and critical cooling rate (Rc). The specific heat(Cp) associated with structural relaxation, glass transition and crystallization was measured with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). we have subsequently searched for a serious of Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be-Mg-Y amorphous alloys with a wide supercooled liquid region. Results show that the alloy is composed of a single amorphous phase and exhibits excellent glass forming ability.
