Abstract: Nonlinear changes in the spectra of 100-picosecond optical pulses at 1061 nm transmitted through Nd$+3$PLU$/ and Er$+3$PLU$/ doped optical silica fibers were investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Generation of the Stokes and anti-Stokes frequency satellites was measured in Er$+3$PLU$/ fibers and identified with the modulation instability due to four-wave mixing and stimulated Raman scattering. The generation of the Stokes Raman component was measured for single-core-mode double-clad Nd$+3$PLU$/ fibers.!7
