Analysis of the samples of waste water (taken from the main drainage of Dyeing Plant of Sichuan Cotton Textile Plants) was carried out at our laboratory, in which the main characteristics of the wastewater, such as pH, colority, light absorbency, and transparency were measured with an acidity meter, a spectro - colourimeter, and other instruments. A novel method for the treatment of the wastewater was proposed using a hollow fibre membrane device (a haemodialyzer, artificial kidney). A series of preliminary laboratory study of the membrane treatment method was performed in the bench scale in the laboratory. The tentative results were quite satisfactory, with the effect of decoloration, improvement of transparency, and decrease of pH, reduction of COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), etc. The preliminary investigation showed a prosperous application of membranes in the treatment of wastewater of dye works. Further study for more complete research was predicted.
