Mortars: today and for the new millenium

摘要

The paper briefly outlines the development of masonry mortars throughout history to the present day. It examines the current need and requirements for masonry mortars within the UK and how these may be met. Mix design, material specification and test procedures are also considered. Current British and European standardisation in this field is critically reviewed, both for the mortar and for the constituent materials. Recent changes in standards and codes are considered and likely trends discussed. Suggested future changes in the material requirements and the test methods are addressed.
