In graphic applications such as CAD ones, user involvement is really important. User interactions are often direct manipulations. As a result, system must manage selection process. It's not a so easy task: selection process must be efficient since it's a common way of retrieving user intent, but virtual environment development makes it complex to manage. This paper studies how systems evolved in this sense. We show that on the one hand, systems made significant progress, and on the other hand, high level interactions which uses selection process remain difficult for users. Whether it's devices or selection techniques, there are many, but none is ideal and new capacities are not enough used. Rather than propose another device or another selection technique, we show through several ideas how better exploiting existing devices and techniques to improve selection process in common interaction.
