A two-dimensional domain under plane stress conditions is discretised into a mesh of rigid triangular elements. By assigning an elastic-plastic shear stress-strain relationshi for slipping at edges a matrix formulation is developed for stepwise elastoplastic analysis through a sequence of plastic events till plastic collapse. Tangential velocity discontinuities are admitted along element edges. The stress solutionfor average shear stresses along element edges is expressed in terms applied loading at boundaries and plastic slippage along edges. The stress solution satisfies equilibrium exactly. The scheme is illustrated using a simple example.
