It was attempted to determine the timing of gold mineralization at Yamagano and its vicinities, using paleomagnetic evidence. The polarity sequence of remanent magnetizations from volcanic and sedimentary rocks and ore veins was correlated to the time scale of magnetostratigraphy. It is shown that the mineralization of hte Yamagano gold deposits of the epiternal type occurred within the Reunion normal subechron (2.14-1.15 Ma). The rocks related to the Hishikari gold deposits were determined, and the timing of the formation of the Akeshi and Kasuga gold deposits is also discussed.
