Stream sediment samples were collected from pumped mine water discharges at 8 active inland dewatering sites in the historic exposed. Coalfield. Sediments were taken from the receiving stream bed using a gold-panning suction pump and then sieved on site. Sediment size fractions and ochre deposits were collected from each pump site in the Wear catchment and 3 naturally seeping acid mine discharges (AMD).
