Normalized REE patterns of carbonates contain significant genetic information. In this study, the REE distributions of magnesites in Orhaneli region (Sestern Anatolia) were investigated. The samples show different REE patterns and Eu, Ce and Yb anomalies. Three types of pattern were observed: i) a pattern representing high LREE/HREE ratio without Ce and Eu anomalies; 2) a pattern showing similar LREE and HREE values with uncertain positive and negative Eu and Ce anomalies; 3) a pattern exhibiting with low REE with conspicuous positive Eu, negative Ce and slightly negative Yb anomalies. The REE studies point out the different formation steps. It is postulated that redox conditions had been subjected to change in teh area, remobilisation and reformation processes had taken place. Although a low temperature environment of mineral formation are indicated, the solutions, which gained REE during the active tectonism by fluid-rock interaction, are probably responsible for these various formation steps.
