Hydrothermal alkali metasomatism in the Salobo iron oxide Cu(-Au) deposit, carajas mineral province, northern brazil

Hydrothermal alteration efects on host amphibolites of teh Archean iron oxide Cu(-Au) deposit of Salobo, northern Brazil, have been investigated. Preliminary results indicate that the studied rocks were affected by different degrees of alkali metsomatism, resulting in major compositional changes. In addition, similarities in the hydrothermal alteration assemblages and in the ore mineralogy and chemistry suggest that the Salobo iron oxide Cu(-Au) deposit amy belong to the class of iron oxide (Cu-U-Au-REE) deposits.
