Systematic studies of granite pegmatites from Setesdalen, South, Norway, show a strong coherence between the genetic history of pegmatites and the concentration and speciation, respectively, of structural impurities. Therefore, detailed knowledge of a pegmatite field, if combined with quartz analysis of a few carefully selected localities, may drastically reduce the area in which prospecting after high-purity quartz resources is feasible.
