A method is presented which allows an online processing of image data from CCD-line-scanners to a digital elevation model. The developments on the fields of CCD's, computers and navigation systems allow an approach without any human interaction. The method works without ground control points, it uses the measured parameters of the orientation instead. So the accuracy of this approach is determined by the quality of the measured attitude values. The paper shows that it is possible to get a data product in a very short time. It can be a starting point even for onboard processing.In order to evaluate the results a complex ray tracing algorithm is used. With the help of the images of the camera, the attitude data and of the generated elevation model two orthoimages are produced. By comparing these orthoimages using a matching algorithm the differences between these two images can be determined. It is a crucial measure for the quality of the online DEM-program.
