Experimental results of Bragg diffraction on a volume phase grating induced by crossed beams of pulsed HF laser radiation in gaseous xenon containing absorbing additive are presented. The conditions for effective grating formation and those for experiments realization are presented in the paper. Kinetics of grating formation and grating decay have been studied. The highest value of grating diffraction efficiency reached 80% in our experiments. In this paper we also try to analyze the reasons why 100% efficiency value could not be reached. The estimate of radiation power of continuous-wave chemical laser (CCL) required for grating formation and for controlling variations in grating structure is presented.
