This paper studies the influence of radiation properties of surfaces and incident solar radiatioin on the efficiency of finned tube space solar collectors used in artificial satellites. The "two band model" is applied to radiation, giving a better physical description of the system. Conduction heat transfer in the fin is considered coupled with radiation. The mathematical modeling of heat transfer in the collector leads to a non-linear integro-differential system of equations, which is solved numerically. The solution of these equations supplies the temperature d istributions in the fins and possibility of the calculation of the collector efficiency. The effects of radiation proerties of surfaces on the performance of the collector are discussed, taking into consideration the use of the selective surfaces. The effects of the incident solar radiation levels in the collector are discussed also. The results are presented in dimensionless form.
