Modern microcomputer techniques for missile analysis and design

A graphical user interface (GUI) for automated optimal 5 DOF solutions of missile defended space/area capability has been adapted for microcomputers. ^This technology allows the automated generation of a missile's maximum defended space for surface to air missiles and maximum defended area for surface to surface or air to surface missiles. ^The user friendly GUI created for this optimal technology provides a quick assessment of a missile's maximum capability with an unparalleled ease of use of optimal trajectory technology. ^Assessed missiles include user created missile designs, augmentations from old missile design and existing missiles. ^The key areas of innovation of this tool are the convergence mechanics for new and redesigned missiles with control constraints. ^As noted in Bryson and Ho (1969), a method assessing the preconvergent condition of a control riding a constraint boundary has not been discovered. ^Here, due to the Finite Element Methodology (FEM) employed, simple solutions to this problem abound and facilitate an ease of convergence not found in other optimal routines. ^The ease of solution is so prolific it facilitates calculating a defended area/space for a new missile design in a radically short period of time. ^(Author)
