Computer-aided cartographical system for map digitizing

摘要

The authors present a PC-based cartographical system to digitizemaps. A memory restriction made us develop special technologies andtechniques to digitize large-sized map-drawings. The combination ofmanual digitizing and labeling with automatic vectorization andrecognition, and interactive editing allowed us to get satisfactory timecharacteristics for digitizing complex maps. To process automaticallyscanned maps in a restrictive computer memory, an effective pipelineoriented scheme and new techniques have been developed. A new processcalled object labeling has been introduced to speed up theinterpretation process. An output database structure has been suggestedto store all needed information about the map
