A micromachined capilary electrophoresis system has been fabricated on a glass chip for the separation and detection of phenols. The five phenols, viz., phenol, 2-chlorophenol, 2,4-dichorophenol, 2,4,6-trichorophenol and pentacholrophenol were separated within 150 seconds with a 22mM Tris-borate EDTA buffer containing 1mM fluorescein. Detection was by indirect flurescence using a conventional hight source.
