摘要

This paper considers tghe suitability of electronic gas sensors for detection of underground cable faults. The proposed detector would work by detecting the gases produced during a cable fault. The methods used to determine the products of electrical insulation degradation ar outlined and the results are presented. The target molecules for the sensor system are identified and metal oxide sensors are proposed for incorporation into the detector.
