Approach incorporating dependability and maintenance from the design stages

For future nuclear power plants to be competitive, the mean net present cost per kWh must be cut and the level of safety improved at the same time. The CIDEM project (design incorporating availability, operating feedbak and maintenance) is aimed at cutting the production cost per kWh of future power plants by taking maintenance) is aimed at cutting the production ocst per kWh of future power pants by taking manintenance and availability targets and the associated operating feedback into account from the design stage. This probject includes a research and development phase, encompassing creating the methods and tools needed by the approach, proposing an overall integrationrocess, specifying a tehical information system to assist design and maintence This work, carried out between 1994 and 1996, is briefly described below.
