A common-cause-failure-event database

This paper presents a database system containing the information needed to quantify probabilities of Common-Cause-Failures (CCF) in Probabilisitic Safety Assessments (PSA). For this quantification, events from operational experience where CCF phenomena have occurred are used. For this purpose a data-base of common-Cause-Failure Events has been developed. This database contains descriptions of CCF events including the causes of the falures-in as far as they are known-together with a qualitiative judgement of the observed damage states and including all information needed for a quantitative estimation of each individual event. At this time the database already contains about 400 events, all individually observed CCF phenomena. There is a separate database containing the specific parameters used for the quantitative estimation of these events for specific applications in PSA. This database also contains the corresponding data with respect to a statistical evaluation.
