摘要

An effective device for buccal mucosa drug delivery requires an intimate contact between the drug delivery system and the buccal surface for a desired period of time. Therefore, it is essential to design materials with good mucoadhesion for the buccal delivery systems. It has been shown in our laboratory that the introduction of poly(ethylene glycol) monomethylether monomethacrylate (PEGMM) in poly(acrylic acid) results in mucoadhesion improvement. Since the buccal mucosal surface is negatively charged, introducing cationic monomer into the bioadhesive would provide electrostatic attraction between the adhesive and the buccal surface. Consequently, mucoadhesion will be enhanced.
