The biodistribution of a liposome-associated anticancer drug depends on its circulation time in blood (reviewed in). Incorporation of polyethyleneglycol (PEG)-derivatized phospholipids into the liposomal membrane substantially extends liposome circulation time and increases accumulation in implanted tumors.
