Abstract: The multi-sensor multi-resolution technique (MMT) wasused to unmix simulated ASTER data. The simulation wasperformed using airborne spectrometer data of the openlignite mine Zwendkau in the Central German lignitemining district. The unmixing of low resolution ASTERthermal IR images with the reflective bands allowed forsignificant improvement of the spatial resolution. Theradiometric accuracy was estimated using referenceimages and extracted pixel spectra. In comparison toother techniques, the MMT preserves the radiometricinformation in the TIR. Therefore, the spectralinformation can be used for a mineralogical analysis ofthe dumped material. !14
