Abstract: Partially and fully developed speckle fields form cylindrical surfaces are described analytically with special emphasis on the measurement of surface translations. Based on the ABCD-matrix method, two generic optical system for determining angular velocities and angular displacements will be analyzed. It will be shown that robust, non-contact optical system for industrial applications can be produced. The basic system that is analyzed is as follows: a laser beam of arbitrary radius of curvature illuminates a pane or curved surface. The speckles in a plane following an optical system are analyzed with respect to various target deformations. Specifically, the speckle translation, the speckle size and the speckle decorrelation in the detector pane will be analyzed. !12
