Effects of cladding on fracture analysis

Commercial reactor vessels are clad with stainless steel to enhance the corrosion resistance. The cladding is weld-deposited, and therefore welding residual stresses are present. These stresses canpotentially affect the behavior of cracks in the reactor vessel, and so it is of interest to characterize them, as well as their impact.
