The optimal placement of a storey-installation type damper for vibration control has not yet been established. Therefore, in almost eases, the dampers have been installed uniformly in each storey. However, this placement method (uniform placementmethod; UPM) is inefficient because this produces the different energy gap in between the low and the high floors. Though to arrange dampers along the optimum placement shape is very important, it is hard to search the optimum placement because this isinfluenced by the dynamic characteristic of the building. This study attempts to apply the genetic algorithm (GA) to determine the proper distribution for the storey-installation type damper rapidly and easily[1], [2]. In this paper to improve the searchperformance, the new type of GA that based on the simple genetic algorithm is suggested. Then, the effect of this algorithm is shown.
