Review of current russian-american joint projects on safe management of nuclear materials

Three previous Russian-American workshops on safe management of nuclear materials have provided a great body of technical information useful to both sides. The most important result was the consideration of the causes of an HLW reprocessing accident discussed during the Siberian Chemical Association in 1993 and the development of measures for prevention of similar incidents in the future. The protocol accepted jointly at the third (1995) workshop in Los Alamos, New Mexico was devoted to these problems. Studies of the accident were planned and carried out independently in the US and Russia.
