Samples of grey Cast Iron melt with low linear contraction on solidification were used for studying the mechanical properties and microstructures for correlating them with the chemical composition through the use of carbon equivalent.The samples of the cast iron used for the assembly of anodes were prepared for analyzing the chemical elements C,Si,P,Mn,and S and realize tests of traction and hardness.The results obtained indicate that the optimum mechanical properties for anode rodding are those which correspond to the carbon equivalent content near the eutectic point.
