Biofouling and microbiologically induced corrosion(MIC) considered as trouble-makers in operation of cooling water systems and nowadays get more attention by engineers. Normally plant operators pay attention on general microbiological indicators such as Sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) or total bacterial count (TBC) and it is supposed that control of these indicators will stop biofouling and biocorrosion. Scarcity of fresh water has urged many refineries and petro-chemical plants to reuse their wastewaters after treatment as a part of make-up for cooling system.
