Abstract: In the past we have proposed a system that measures thedeformations of the vocal folds from videostroboscopicimages of the larynx, in that system: (1) we extractthe boundaries of the vocal folds, (2) we registerelastically the vocal fold boundaries in successiveframes. This yields the displacement vector field (DVF)between adjacent frames, and (3) we fit using aleast-squares approach an affine transformation modelto succinctly describe the deformations betweenadjacent frames. In this paper, we present as anexample of the capabilities of this system, an initialstudy of the deformation changes in rat vocal folds preand post injection with Botulinum toxin. For thisapplication the generated DVF was segmented into rightDVF and left DVF and the deformation of each segment isstudied separately. !16
