Practical application of psychometrics to color printers

Abstract: Psychometric testing, in the form of paired samplecomparisons, is used to determine tolerances on opticaldensity and color registration settings on the IBMInfoColor 70 printer. In the process, several printquality metrics are evaluated and the data is analyzedin several ways to explore possibilities of conductingpsychometric testing with small numbers of participantsin conference room environments. Both are shown to bepossible. Several conclusions are also drawn aboutmetrics for optical density and color misregistrationeffects. !2
