This paper will provide information on construction of a shoreline revetment project utilizing innovative materials. This 500 foot long revetment was recently constructed in a narrow oceanfront location. Typical wire mesh gabions are difficult to lift and would have been extremely difficult to build in place here due to tidal and wave activity. Alternatively, prefabricated high density polyethylene (HDPE) gabion mattresses were used in the project design for improved constructability, durability and scour control.
