A typical coil failure in the generator stator is a problem that can usually be fixed with minimum downtime and cost. However, multiple coil failures in a multi turn widning require extensive down times and usually require the expedited manufacture of more coils. Almost always these failures occur when there is excess water that must by bypassed. Invaiably the question the owner always asks is what repairs can be made to the generator in order to operate until a permanent repair can be made or the generator stator can be rewound? This paper focuses on a generato failure and the operation of the generator for four months with 25percent of the generator cut out until it could be rewound.
