Optical communication has been growing rapidly and requires continual improvement in the performance of optical data link modules. In many cases, the supply voltage of optical data link modules is 5.0 V. On the other hand, many high-end electronic devices such as CPUs and communication chips are designed using CMOS technology, where the supply voltage has been reduced to 3.3 V or lower. To operate all of the devices on the mother board by a single power supply, a power supply voltage reduction will be necessary for optical data link modules, which causes extreme reduction of power consumption of the optical data link modules.
