A new approach to the localization of the sources of the human electroencephalogram (EEG) is based on the spatial-temporal decomposition of the EEG data matrix. Estimation of the locations of the sources then involves attempting to find the rotation of a subset of the spatial components of this decomposition that produces images of model sources on the scalp. The main appeal of this approach would appear to be that the sources of the EEG can be localized one at a time irrespective of the number that ate actually active. In this work, this property is verified by simulation using a conductive sphere model of the head and current dipoles as models of the sources. The effect of the arrangement of the electrodes in the EEG recording array on the reliability of the predicted source locations is also examined.
