Performance comparison of deterministic signals for HF channel parameters estimation

A new approach in HF channels parameters estimation is presented. It consists in improving the link quality analysis procedures involved in the link establishment techniques. This is achieved thanks to the estimation of the parameters that completely characterize the multipath and fading phenomena encountered in ionospheric transmissions. These parameters belongs to the Watterson (1970) HF channel model. The estimation method is based on the computation of the correlation function of the equivalent base-band output signal together with a least squares equation. Performance analysis and several computer results are presented with different channel input signals.
