Abstract: A numerical approach based on the 3D finite-differencemethod and the analytical results of the fields inwaveguides is developed for the analysis of thecharacteristics of waveguide three-port junctions. Thebasic two wave equations described by two transversefield components with respect to the direction of thepower propagation are derived from the MaxwellEquations in cylindrical coordinates. For the junctionsfilled with air, there is only one field component ineach equation, and generally solving the equationrelative to electric field is enough for the obtain ofthe property of the junction. Two typical cases wereanalyzed by the approach and the results agree wellwith the earlier experimental and theoretical results.!9
