Progress with a flashlamp-pumped titanium sapphire laser--preliminary results from an oscillator amplifier configuration

Abstract: A oscillator amplifier configuration of laser has beendesigned and demonstrated using an oscillator with asingle titanium sapphire rod in a pumping chamber in aclose coupled configuration with a single linearflashlamp. The amplifier was of a similar design butused a pair of flashlamps. Currently, it has producedin excess of 3 J/pulse in the free-running scheme at arepetition rate of 5 Hz. Some applications of this typeof tunable laser are considered.!8
