Abstract: Photothermal coagulation of indocyanine/fibrinogen/hyaluronate `glue' with diode laser irradiation (ICG) produces mechanically more stable wound closures in rat skin incisions when compared to wounds closed by CW HoYAG laser irradiation alone. However, neither laser-medicated technique produced wound closures as stabile as the sutured wounds. The predominant advantages of photothermal closure of skin wounds are short operating times and formation of fluid tight bonds with minimal tissue manipulation. The added stability of ICG/laser closed wounds demonstrated in this study suggests the possible usefulness of this technique to close skin wounds in areas of low skin tension.!13
